By Friday evening, police confirmed the friends speculation when they identified Mitchell Lapa, of Winnipeg, Man., as the lone attacker and owner of the vehicle that was towed from the scene.
Lapa was the sole shooter in this incident and he died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said in a statement released Friday evening, explaining the man was a relative of the family and was an uninvited person to the home.
The Homicide Unit is still investigating the motive for the shooting and will release the identity of the other deceased parties after a post-mortem is conducted and all applicable next-of-kin are notified, police said.
The friend who spoke to the Sun identified Lorettas husband as Chris Traynor, a teacher at Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School in Oshawa.
In that grapevine community, theyre saying Mitchell killed all Lorettas family and only injured her enough, so she would have to live without the rest of her family, she said. I had heard that when the father died, something deteriorated then.
The friend said Loretta and her other brother Christopher had a stable relationship.
She also confirmed the couple had four children.
Its just devastating, she said. From what Im hearing, their eldest son just went to university, but nobody can see if hes back.
