Dominic Fike Shares New Music Video “Politics & Violence”

Dominic Fike is poised to be a star. The BROCKHAMPTON affiliate and genre-less talent has been building toward his debut studio album for quite some time. Now it’s finally received a release date after numerous delays due to both the coronavirus pandemic and more recently in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter protests. What Could Possibly Go Wrong launches July 31 via Columbia Records.
Fike shared the news by premiering his latest music video, “Politics & Violence” on Friday. The offering was directed by Reed Bennett with the album cover coming to life through an abstract visualizer. Dom fuses his inherent hip-hop sensibilities with some layered singing that’s downright alternative in nature. It showcases his ability to meld his wide-ranging influences. Around the 1:50 mark there’s a beat-switch by producer Julian Cruz that brings to mind PARTYNEXTDOOR’s “Persian Rugs” and serves as the perfect foundation for Fike to drop a quick 16.
The track follows his recent “Chicken Tenders” video paired with a candid interview with Kevin Abstract talking about the process of recording What Could Possibly Go Wrong. He’s long since showcased his charisma in videos like “Phone Numbers” where he robs Halsey and shares the Breaking Bad-esque spotlight with frequent collaborator Kenny Beats. Dom has had some high-profile collaborations too, tapping Omar Apollo for “Hit Me Up”. He kicked off 2020 by dropping his debut EP B-Sides, a project that featured three promising demos in a preview of what’s to come.
