Allegheny County adds 530 new covid cases in 2 days – TribLIVE

The Allegheny County Health Department announced the area added 530 new cases of coronavirus over the past two days.
Of those new cases, 260 were added Sunday, 270 added Monday.
The county’s seven-day total of new cases hit a record high 1,596 — a 200% increase since the beginning of October, when the seven-day total was only 527.
Of the new cases, 427 were confirmed via 2,945 new PCR tests — 240 on Sunday, 187 on Monday — making for about a 14.5% positive rate for the new tests. The tests were conducted from Nov. 2 through Sunday.
The county said there were 109 new probable cases of the virus.
The new cases ranged in age from 1 month to 102 years old, with a median age of 40.
Health officials said there were no new covid-related deaths in the county over the past two days, making it the third straight day without a new death.
The age breakdown of the new cases — 306 females, 224 males — was:

  • Ages 0-4: 4
  • Ages 5-12: 13
  • Ages 13-18: 43
  • Ages 19-24: 89
  • Ages 25-49: 182
  • Ages 50-64: 86
  • Ages 65 and over: 113

According to the state’s covid-19 tracking website, there are 189 Allegheny County residents currently in the hospital with the virus, 33 of them on ventilators. State officials report there are 812 operational ventilators in the county, with 219 (27%) currently in use for all illnesses.
To date, the county reports 1,533 residents have been hospitalized for the virus, with five new hospitalizations since Saturday.
The county’s covid website is reporting outcomes in 11,947 cases — with 11,513 assumed to be recovered and 434 deaths. The current recovery rate for those whose case has an outcome is more than 96%. Out of the county’s 17,656 total covid-19 cases, 5,709 cases remain without an assumed outcome.
Cases are considered to be “recovered” after it’s been 32 days since the person was hospitalized for covid-19 and not deceased or, if they weren’t hospitalized within 14 days of testing positive.
There were two new covid cases in the past week among employees at the Allegheny County Jail, according to the county website. To date, 22 workers have tested positive, with 17 recoveries. The county has tested 146 workers. There continues to be no new cases among inmates, with 593 tested — 38 positives, 550 negatives. All 38 of the covid-positive inmates have either recovered or been released.
Since the pandemic began in March, 15,775 county residents have had positive PCR tests for the virus, with 224,115 reported negative — meaning 6.58% of those PCR tests have been positive.
