Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for much of the Greater Toronto Area as the first significant snowfall of the season impacts the region.
Areas under the warning include Toronto, northern Durham Region, York Region, Caledon, Mississauga, Brampton, Halton Hills, and Milton.
The weather agency said 10 to 20 cm of snow is expected for Toronto, Mississauga, and Brampton while northern areas of the GTA could see anywhere from 15 to 25 cm.
“A Colorado low is ushering in the first significant snowfall of the season to southern Ontario but where you are in proximity to Lake Ontario will play a big role as to how much snow you need to shovel in the GTA,” Global News weather specialist Ross Hull said.

“This system is packed with moisture and will be moving through the area today into tonight.”
Areas close to the lakeshore are expected to see lower snow totals.
Southern Durham Region, Oakville, and Burlington are under a winter weather travel advisory. Those regions are expecting anywhere from seven to 14 cm of snow by the time the system moves through.

Drivers are being advised to drive cautiously in the conditions.
Conditions are expected to improve by Monday.
Weather warnings or advisories stretch from London up to southern Quebec as a result of the system.
