Ontario reports a drop in new COVID-19 cases but fewer tests completed – CityNews Toronto

Ontario is reporting 1,676 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday — a drop from a record daily high of 1,925 cases the day before.
The most new cases are in Toronto (588), Peel Region (349) and York Region (141).
Although the province recorded a drop in cases, it only completed around 39,200 tests on Monday, which is well short of its goal of 50,000 tests per day. There are also 40,732 tests still under investigation.
Another 10 more people have died, bringing the death toll to 3,808. Most of the deaths (2,396) were people living in long-term care.
The province said 794 people are currently hospitalized with the virus, with 219 in ICU and 132 on ventilators.
Health officials also reported 333 new school-related cases on Monday. A total of 853 schools across the province now have a reported case.
Although Tuesday’s tally is the lowest since Nov. 26 when 1,478 cases were recorded, the province has said that Tuesday is typically the lowest day for numbers because fewer people get tested on the weekend.read more
